    A gate valve is a linear motion valve which typically has a parallel closing element perpendicular to the process stream, i.e. it slides into the stream layer and closes. The simplicity of the gate valve structure and its large number of applications for general purpose and different temperature and pressure conditions make it one of the most common valves in use today. It is specially designed for thin slurries with entrained solids, particles and powders and for refrigeration or vacuum operations, and is easy to maintain and dismantle. Gate valves are inherently fire safe and are often specified for fire safe operation. Therefore it is widely used in petroleum, chemical, fertilizer, oilfield, power and other industries.
